Students in grades 4 and 5 explore a broad range of content and skills in the areas of math, science, social studies and English language arts. Our core courses are aligned to the Massachusetts State Frameworks.
In addition to the core classes which are taught by your child's homeroom teacher, Molin School students have the opportunity to expand their academic curiosity in our Exploratory Classes. These include technology and engineering, art, music, physical education and wellness.
Student progress is measured using a variety of tools to ensure we are looking at our students through a holistic lens. We use the iReady tool to measure beginning of year, middle of year and end of year progress in literacy and math. Teachers can use the data from these measures to adjust their instruction and identify students who may need additional help. A standards-based report card provides parents and guardians with information on student progress three times per year.
Multi-Tiered Supports
The Molin School offers three levels of support for every student. Instruction begins in the classroom through the core curriculum. Teachers may use a variety of approaches and accommodations to help students learn. See our District Accommodation Plan for some examples of strategies all learners may need to make progress.

If classroom assessments (including observation, teacher-created assessments, and assessment tools like iReady) shows a student may need more support in a specific area, the teacher may try a targeted intervention like small group reteaching of a concept.
If a student continues to struggle, a teacher may recommend more intensive intervention with our math or literacy interventionist. The interventionists typically work with students for short periods of time to address identified weaknesses. Intervention may take place in small groups or individually.
